    <title>Oscar Buzz: How to Survive a Plague, and the History of Sex Workers with ACT UP</title>

    <summary>The movie How to Survive a Plague recently won the award for Best Documentary from the IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards and is nominated for an Oscar. You can see it at Maysles Cinema in Harlem this weekend. 

All of the women&apos;s stuff early on included sex workers. People from PONY were doing part of the organizing around the expansion of the CDC definition of AIDS to include symptoms experienced by women, and they were part of everything that went on around women&apos;s issues.&quot;

    <summary>Members of the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) and Prostitutes of New York (PONY) overlapped and held different roles in the different organizations. This aspect of HIV activism is sometimes neglected, sometimes to save the positions now held by former sex workers, out of not knowing everyone&apos;s whole lives, and sometimes perhaps out of stigma and discrimination. </summary>
