It seems lately everyone is wanting to come out with a remake of something. Michael Jackson is doing it with the remake of his Thriller album. Yeah, I know it is in celebration of the original's twenty- five year anniversary. But some things are better left alone. Actually, I prefer the original. It seems like ever since Diddy dropped some loops of older music on his songs everyone wants to try their hand at it.I won't deny that I liked the song by Notorious B.I.G., "Mo Money, Mo Problems" which had the loop of Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out" or the song "Notorious" which used the loop from Duran Duran's "Notorious". Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But I don't think Diddy was trying to pay homage to the original artist. And I don't know what Michael Jackson was thinking because his remake is not going to top the records his original broke. I know his last couple of albums didn't fare too well but please don't throw something together and think I'm gonna be suckered into liking it.
I guess what I am saying when it comes to the music is, what happened to talent? It seems like the music industry is putting together groups who can dance or sing along with a rapper to do a few lines of profanity and it's considered a "hit". Or have a rapper who throws a few strippers in his video, call females bitches or hoes or talk about killing someone. I guess that is considered the new standard in role models for the youth of today. No wonder the younger generation has no respect for anyone or anything. OMG, I sound like my parents!!!! I listen to some of the rap that is out now, well, not really the words anymore, just the beat.
Now it has even crossed over into the movies. Correct me if I am wrong but I think the movie, "The Grudge" started it.Then there was "One Missed Call". Now Jessica Alba has a movie out called "The Eye".The originals were done by the Japanese, I believe. Rob Zombie even did a remake of "Halloween" but in all honesty, I don't feel that was a remake but more of a spin on the original. I think he was trying to make one see what serial killer Michael Myers life could've possibly been like. In somewhat of a trailer park trash kind of view but at least he put some thought into it. With the other movies, it just seems like they Americanize it, where is the creativity in that? I don't even look forward to going to the movies anymore, I'd rather wait for the dvd. Or I will get my hands on a bootleg just to see if I want to buy the dvd. If you noticed, I have been speaking on horror movies because that is what I like to watch. I am not one to really get into the mushy movies. But if I am going to spend my money on movies or music, I want to know that my money was well spent.

Sssshhh Skeebo. Don't give them any ideas..LOL..And more than likely I would hear about the bootleg dvds.Hell, it's not like I am downloading them on my computer. I'd rather pay 5 bucks for a bootleg dvd to see a movie that sucks than to buy a dvd that costs anywhere from 13-20 bucks that sucks. I call it being thrifty..:)

Michelle. No disrespect intended, but perhaps you should toy with the idea of going back to school. In most states, people on disibility/unemployment benefits can go to state schools with free tuition.
Now as for loops of other songs, Rapper's Delight(1979) was a sample of Chic's "Good Times" from . I hope your music history isn't limited to Sean Combes. Nor do you really seem to undertsand the difference between a remake, and a sample.
Next point. do you really think the Grudge started movie remakes? The Magnificent Seven (1960) was a remake of the Japanese movie "Seven Samarui" by Kurasawa. This is just an example, with further reading I'm sure I could go back further.
Last point. You mentioned you sounded like your parents. Perhaps if you had taken more of thier advise, your life wouldn't be so .....let's say....difficult

Just Me---
I must be rubbing off on you, I swear you are trying to be civil...*smiles* And I guess I will just have to accept that you are going to nitpick on every little thing I say, that's just you, I guess. No disrespect but just saying...
I stand corrected and you are right, those are considered loops and not remakes. The point I was trying to say is that folks have seemed to have lost the idea of original thought. Know what I mean? And no my musical tastes do not start with Diddy. I like Rick James, James Brown, B.B. King, Prince, Duran Duran, George Michael, Eminem, Jay Z, MC Lyte, Don Omar, Tego Calderon, Fat Joe, Akon, T-Pain, Kem, and the list goes on. I have a wide range of what I like when it comes to music.
Now as for the movies, well dear, I am a 69 baby so the Magnificent Seven was before my time. I do want to see the Seven Samurais, I noticed that on Netflix. Thanks for the trivia.
I guess you were that one kid who listened to everything their parents said. I admit I was a bit of a hellion and a rebel. Imagine that. I may not have listened to everything my parents said but I did remember my father saying that "Life will show me more than what he could and experience is the best teacher.
So am I to assume that you are living a "Wonderful Life" or never made a mistake at anything?

I'm not trying to nitpick. I'm just correcting mistakes. I make plenty myself, it's not me being condescending. As for the educational advise, it was supposed to have been seperate from the discussion, but I can see how it seems to have blended to make me sound, again...condescending. I disagree with music originality, it may not happen often, but there are distinct artists that break the mold. Nirvana is a major example, Pearl Jam, Prince, Korn, Nelly Furtado...even Outkast....of course the majority are cookie cutter artists that producers use to make a quick buck. It's like those low budget movies like " I know what you did last summer". Crap movie but the costs will always be far below the gross take on those movies, because some people see them regardless of thier trash plots. As for my parents, I didn't always listen either, I've made my share of mistakes, but I think the key is learning from those mistakes. I'm 36, have a good career, HIV - , and go to a prestigious university here in the northeast. Our lives are very different...granted, but my goal is not to criticize you. I'm more curious about your life, though, and I think that people learn as much from each other as we do experiences.

Just Me---
Now this is what I call having a conversation w/o all the drama. I must celebrate this because I actually thought things were going to remain a bit hostile. If I had a Corona, I would say "Cheers" but since I don't and have some good green, I will smoke one in honor of this event(also contributing to the bank in honor of Blu). *smiles*
I actually missed the bit about going to school. At one point, I was until I lost my hearing but was going to school online with Devry. I explained the situation about my loss of hearing and they seemed to have dropped me rather than work with me. I would like to go back to school but I want to do things with computers. I would like to learn how to take the apart and troubleshoot or do some web design. At the moment, I have other issues that need to be worked on so for now school will have to go on the back burner.
I have never listened to Nirvana or Pearl Jam. I think the only Korn I listened to was off of the soundtrack to Queen of the Damned, wasn't that Korn or am I mistaken? I do like Outkast, so you got a point there because they're quite original. Prince, it just goes w/o saying, another point for you.
Best believe I learn from my mistakes. I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't. I know you may find that hard to believe but I know some of the things I have been through most would have a hard time overcoming. I won't go into details, just take my word for it. Ah, so curiosity brought you back to me. You sure about that? Just kidding..

how about LL Cool J? I dont think i've ever heard a song of his where he disrespects women or swears or raps about violence. If only others could follow his lead. these 50cent Ja Rule and whatnot. Outkast i think is totally crazy funny especially that song Roses "i know u like to think your shit dont stink but lean a little closer see that roses really smell like poo poo poo"
as for movies i just watch and try not to compare.
and MJ really out to hang up his microphone...

Michelle...my Belle..
I have to clarify. I don't think I was ever hostile. I'm stubborn, and opiniontaed, but never hostile. You also have to admit yourself that you were defensive.....women...never did understand them. Gay men must have it easy.
Now school. I think continuing education is the perfect path for anyone, but watch for those schools like Devry, Univ of Phoenix, and other "for profit" institutions. My advive would be to go to a community college and get some credits in (free tuition ...remember!) then matriculate to a state school. If you started with just 1 class (very do-able) try the schedule and see how it is. Never start any project at full speed, it'll only frustrate you, and then you'll be more inclined to quite and procrastinate.
Beer - Never understood what the fuss was about Corona. I'll share a secret. By far the best beer created on this world hands down is called Chimay. It's a Trappist Ale...meaning it's brewed in a Monestary by Monks (please wikipedia, "chimay"). The Monks use the profits to support thier monastic order, and support charities. Despite the good warm fuzzy feelings you get from buying something that goes to such a good cause....it's THE BEST beer brewed in the world. The quality is amazing. It's not easy to find, but go to your local liquor store and make them order it for you.
Movies....Yes Korn was involves in the soundtrack for that. Interesting movie, but as far as Vampire movies go, the remake of Dracula tops my list, with of course "Interview with a Vampire". Very original, and Ann Rice is one of those chocs, you'd love to get in her head.....god knows what goes on in there.
Ahh speaking of music, and songs. Once in awhile you get some brilliance that comes out of nowhere. Case in point. A youtube video from a band called The New Pornographers. They don't have an official video, but one was posted by High School students. It's so amazingly done that it brings a smile to my face every time I see it.
Problems... I could write you a book. My life has been interesting, no doubt as yours has. It's been an amazing ride, but I wonder what I may be missing, so it motivates me to discover new things....enough about me....what's your motivation?
now as for my curiosity....I was actually brought here researching a thesis...why, do i fascinate you??

Angel---
I definitely like LL Cool J and you are right, I can't think of a song he has done where he has dissed a female. A gold star for you.*winks*. Of course, Will Smith was another one.
I wasn't too crazy about Outkast's "Roses" but did like Andre 3000's "Hey Ya". And I loved "So Fresh and So Clean" and "The Way You Move".
Hmmm, as for Michael, well, it amazes me that he's broke. Didn't he sell Never Never Land or whatever it was called? And now I see Janet is due to drop a new cd. I always liked her anyway and her man, Jermaine Dupri.

Just Me---
What? You're gay? OMG!!! No wonder you were fighting for the last word. *LOL and J/K* I swear my gaydar is broke. And maybe hostile was the wrong word to use in regards to our debate.
I will look into schools at a later date. I have a bit on my plate to deal with at the moment and I would want to be focused before trying to commit to school.
I'm not much of a drinker but I will research this chimay that you speak of. It does sound interesting what the Monks do with their profits. I like Corona compaired to the more popular beers out there. But a Queen does have to watch her figure, ya know..*LOL*
And I do agree with you about vampire movies. Interview w/the Vampire is my fave one. I use to have the dvd til someone stole it from me. Just recently replaced Queen of the Damned which was stolen too. I love Anne Rice and has read all of the Vampire Chronicles. I haven't gotten to the witches yet, I'm afraid. Not sure if you venture into the forums but my name is Queen Akasha. I have a thing for vampires. I don't dress the part but their persona does intrigue me.
What has me responding to you, you ask? Good question, I'll get back to you on that one..*LOL*

No, I'm not Gay. My comment was that gay men must have it easy, since it's so difficult to understand women. You're not excluded from this category by the way....

I never claimed to be easy to understand. It doesn't hurt to keep a person on their toes either. Who wants to be taken for granted?
