Former bareback porn star Brent Corrigan (real name Sean Lockhart) has shot a series of safer sex public service announcements for the Washington, DC-based group Fuk !t, which promotes safer sex for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections.Although he's only 23 years old, Corrigan is a porn veteran. He's also a controversial figure in the porn industry. He claims that he falsified his IDs to get porn work and was underage when he starred in his first films.
Because Corrigan no longer participates in bareback porn, Fuk !t decided that he was an ideal person to deliver safer sex messaging to young gay men.
The Advocate interviewed Fuk !t cofounder Terry Gerace, MD, about Corrigan:
The Advocate: Why did you approach Brent Corrigan, who is known for shooting a number of bareback porn videos early in his career, to come full circle and do this PSA for proper condom use?
Terry Gerace, M.D.: It wasn't so much about him having done bareback porn, it was that he's made this change from doing it to not doing it. He hasn't done those sorts of films for at least four years. He's stayed in the industry, and now only does safer sex porns. It was really about it being someone who learned from their behavior and made a change, which I think represents most young people. They'll start out doing something high-risk, and if they're lucky, they'll survive it and make a change. That's what he did, so I think in a lot of ways, he represents your average person.

Fuk !t has gained attention in no small part due to their use of sexually graphic materials. So it's no surprise that the series of PSAs they did with Corrigan are explicit (and definitely NSFW, not suitable for work).

I'm far from being a prude, but I do admit that I was a bit uncomfortable watching the video--not for my own sake, but for what others might think about gay men and gay sex.
That said, I am all for any HIV prevention messaging that will resonate with gay men, especially young gay men. So if it takes explicit PSAs, then so be it.

Thanks for posting. I can understand your sentiment about being concerned about what others might "think" about gay sex, but don't you think that no matter what we say or do, those right wingers who don't like the idea of two men together, will hate us? Sure they might point to explicit sexuality like in this video and say "see, there they go again those perverted homos!", but they say the same crap about us when we want to get married! Face it, they just hate us. We'll never survive if we worry about what those who hate us think about us.
Remember our history. How many gay doctors wish they could take back their position on condoms in the Hep A & B years prior to AIDS. Gay Leaders were afraid to recommend condoms to prevent STD transmission as gay men were enjoying a new freedom with our sexuality. The results are history. Having made the HIV Positive Educational Video 14 years ago this Memorial Day Weekend, " Let's Talk Man to Man", there is so much power in gay men talking sex pro & con to other gay men to promote discussion. People who controlled HIV Prevention Funding were scared about who saw this video and the details of the workshop Project M. We made it and it was working until GWB & friends destroyed STD Education when they took office in 2001. A generation of gay men have been victim to this act of war on our sexual rights. Make the videos, spread education and push the envelope. Men learn on many levels how to change behavior towards living healthier.
While it's commendable that he made the video, the skeptic in me says I doubt he practices what he preaches in his personal life. Once you get used to going bareback it's not so easy stuffing the genie back in the bottle.
How many of you have met or seen someone online whose profile says "Safe Sex Only" and then they have a picture of them barebacking or you've met with them and they aren't safe? It happens pretty regularly.
HOW TWO FACED IS HE. HE USE TO DO BARE BACK PORN NOW HES AGAINST IT, I CALL THAT TWO FACED AND JUDGEMENTAL ON PEOPLE WHO DO ENJOY BARE BACK AT TIMES.. HE NEEDS TO PIPE IT AND GO BACK TO HIS SO CALLED JOB OF MAKEING PORN, TO ME ITS A SHORT LIVE SCREWED UP WAY TO MAKE MONEY
Hi Wayne,
First, Brent received no money to do these public service announcements--in fact he took a week out of his schedule to come to Washington, when he easily could have booked a payed gig somewhere.
Second, Brent isn't passing any judgment on anyone. He is demonstrating the proper use of a condom and stating the fact that failure to use condoms puts you at risk for contracting HIV. He isn't attacking anyone for barebacking, he's just trying to educate people about safety.
How is trying to educate people being two-faced or judgmental? If you feel judged then that is something you have to deal with yourself.
