Andrew Sullivan aptly summarized my post with his own titled Act-Up Returns, followed by "all we need now are better graphics."
I wasn't crazy about the "God Loves Gay Marriage" banner. It's our love that should be the focus in this debate, not what we think the almighty is blessing these days. Remember, we're in this mess mostly because of what others think God wants or doesn't want. [Full disclosure: I'm a proud atheist.]
Well, ask and you shall receive. Andy Towle reports this morning that Shepard Fairey, the graphic designer who created the iconic Obama "HOPE" posters found on almost every college dormroom wall, has used his considerable talents to help spruce up our upcoming Prop 8 demos. "Thanks to the donations of two print sources, posters will be donated for the rally this Saturday at City Hall."

I was so excited when I heard Shepard Fairey was creating a poster based on my design! It will be nice to have an image to hang our hats on!
I'm sorry but that poster is the worst representation of this battle, and is an example of trying to impose a successful tactic of activism from another battle into this event.
What exactly about that image inspires Love, Equality or Unity?
What does it say to those who are struggling (and whose support we need) with the idea that we aren't out to destroy or change marriage?
As someone else commented on your other blog entry, "Heterosexuals who made that 48% No vote happen are a big part of the winning strategy going forward." Does this image speak to them?
All that graphic seems to say is that the opposition is correct in that we are attempting to force change on others; it strengthens their argument - not ours.
I like the graphic. I think that it is very powerful. (A Spanish version would be nice)I was at the rally here in Phoenix on Saturday afternoon. I was surprised at its success. We had 2000 - 2500 folks show up. This was great because we only had planned the demo on Wednesday. The signs here were okay. The only one I remember was "Bigotry is sooooo last president".
Someone should compile a list of clever slogans and blog them or post them.
I think atheists are sexy. Oh, and I like the poster too.
I agree with Mark about the message of the poster. Besides its homage to very tired socialist realism of the last century, it's an angry, confrontationalist visual. I wasn't particularly fond of the "God loves Gays" banner, but I do not consider this an improvement.
By all means let's argue over the poster for the six months instead of getting anything done. That would be truly "Gay".
I have to admit as of today I am presently surprised by Obama. He demonstrated true leadership friday by choosing his Sec of State a month earlier than any previous president in recent memory. His statements this weekend or leaks saying that there would be no new taxes for at least two years is just huge.He could have easily done what FDR did,nothing. He said nothing as Hoover begged him to do something and drove the economy and stock mkt deeper in a hole making it easier to show improvement when he took office. Obama has shown true courage with his recent announcements. He chose what was best for country over political victories at the expense of economy. He may be a change from the usual democrat party pol. He will face much rancor for his recent moves from within his own party.
I dont like many of his cabinet choices but WTF he has no experience at anything and needs people with some kind of history in exec branch.
It is so wonderful to see a Democrat choose what is best for the country over politics.
I dont want to get Chris Matthews giddy and I know many here who are one issue people are pissed at him,but I say everyone,conservative and libs need to get firmly behind this guy and understand that he is gonna make some decisions the hurt some and reward others,they are tough choices but after this weekend I have new faith and confidence in the person making them. I know I am being a hypocrite and supporting someone with such a corrupt and shady political history,but at this point I would stand with competent crook who can talk over the incompetents who cant.
