Congressional Republicans will soon try to pass an amendment that they claim will fairly balance the budget as the result of a constitutional mandate. In reality, the Balanced Budget Amendment will force cuts that are deep enough to nearly destroy Medicare, Medicaid, and low-income programs. The amendment also makes it nearly impossible to raise revenues. There is NO balance in this Balanced Budget Amendment.
