Dont Get Rickrolled

I got my friend back. The one who sent me that blind link to Stewie from the Family Guy... how did I do so? I "Rickrolled" him.

rick-astley.jpgWhat is Rickrolling? It's telling somebody that a link leads to something they may find of interest, but instead they click and find themselves watching the video to Rick Astley's late-80's hit song, "Never Gonna Give You Up".

This started on April Fool's Day in 2008, when every video link on YouTube went to this song.

Need another example? Let's say the subject of this blog was "Cure for AIDS Found!" And the only link posted on the blog went to this... you would have been the victim of an exceptionally harsh Rickrolling.

So how did I get my friend, who happens to be a new daddy? I posted on his Facebook page that I'd come across a Consumer Reports tutorial on stroller safety. As a good daddy, I knew he'd have to click. He got a face full of Astley. I like to think he got "Rickstrolled."

In a related item, there's been a huge controversy in the selection of Rick Warren, "America's Pastor!", to give the Inaugural Prayer in Washington DC for Obama's first day on the job. An article entitled "Rick Warren's Double Life", was recently posted over at The Daily Beast, and discusses Warren's bad record when it comes to gay rights.

The most quotable line from Warren demands reposting here:

“Here’s an interesting thing: there are about 2% of Americans [who] are homosexual, gay, lesbian people. We should not let two percent of the population determine—to change a definition of marriage that has been supported by every single culture and every single religion for 5,000 years. This is not even just a Christian issue, it is a humanitarian and human issue, that God created marriage for the purpose of family, love and procreation. I urge you to support Proposition 8 and to pass that on.”

He gave this speech to 22,000 people on the eve of Obama's big win in November.

I don't think one can be "America's Pastor" if they refuse to represent the interests and rights of 2 percent of the population, but the media and the new administration continue to saddle him with that title.

It's basically another form of Rickrolling, really. And, just like the Rick Astley prank, all it takes is one click to figure out what's really happening to you.

Positively Yours,

Shawn

Straight guys? Nude photos of Eva Mendes are here. Ladies? Hot Rick Astley action right this way.

Obama is against gay marriage also,at least that is what he has said. I have no problem with gay marriage, but Warren does have a valid point when he talks about the definition of marriage for as long as their has been history.
And since marriage is one of the central foundations of society for all of history, how would the Supreme Court rule? Would history and the family spin carry the day over discrimination, which I think is the best argument to win the case? Slavery was a central part of society for all of world history and still is,yet it it illegal in US and some other countries. Is there something in our constitution regarding gay marriage?
The other thing that might hurt in a supreme court ruling is the court more and more tries to mirror public sentiment and gay marriage losses on the ballot.
Instead of attacking Warren why arent gays who want marriage putting pressure on Democrats who they elect every year? They control the Congress and Presidency. It is within their power to do something.
there is dissent on every issue in this country, maybe gays should be holding Dems feet to the fire on this one rather than attacking the other side. The other side is out of power.

Thanks for your comment, Jack.

Another problem is the numbers game. Warren himself pointed that out- 2% of the population, with many within that percent happy to not fight this particular fight.

Straight people need to speak out, too. Not everyone who opposed slavery was a slave, which is why that was done away with.

I believe the US will step up, and in my lifetime, this issue will be a moot point. Unfortunately, at this time in history, no one could get elected if they publicly supported gay marriage, more states will have to vote it through before that could happen.

First of all, I would loved to linked to a Rick Astley video any day. Especially "Never gonna get you up," totally awesome dude.

Secondly, who is this Jack? Is even "Jack" HIV+? He CERTAINLY have a LOT of free time on his hands, Jack replied to several blogs here on POZ.

I agree with Shawn regarding an "American Pastor." It's nonsensical; "American Buddha, American Atheist"; etc. Regilion has to place in politics.

I'm as gay as a 3 dollar bill, and WE (the gays) are "holding the Dem's feet on fire" AND also
harassing Rick Warren for this bigotted remarks. Yes We Can chew gum and walk at the same time, and redecorate, design and the like, ALL at the same time.

OMG, I've been rickrolled! I wanted to see naked pics of Brad AND Eva:) That was fun Shawn, thanks for the laugh!

I have been equally shocked and amazed that Obama picked crazy rick to speak at his inauguration, but then I remembered that he talked about being all-inclusive. Funny, by being all-inclusive, he alienates 2% of the population, and then another unknown %--we who support our gay brothers and sisters. My 18-year old daughter assures me that her generation will fix the world and it's "love of hatred, war, violence and discrimination." I hope so, baby.
And if I hear another person quote something from a book written thousands of years ago, I will scream! When are people going to stand up for what is right and just in this world, and stop hiding behind "the good book?" Just because "its been done this way" for thousands of years, doesn't mean we have to stick to it forever. We are all driving cars and flying in airplanes, and I don't believe there were cars 5000 years ago.
