Make your dinner reservations! Thursday, April 25, marks the annual kickoff for Dining Out For Life (#DOFL), a unique HIV fundraising event in which thousands of restaurants in cities across the United States and Canada donate portions of the day’s proceeds to local HIV and AIDS organizations.

Though some cities—such as San Francisco—are getting a head start by having the event on Wednesday, April 24:

“Dining Out For Life isn’t just about raising funds; it’s about rallying communities and spreading awareness,” said Cory Onward, president of the Dining Out For Life International board, in a DOFL press release. “April 25 promises to be an exciting day of unity and support.”

This week’s events mark the 34th year of Dining Out For Life. It kicks off the last Thursday of April, considered national Dining Out For Life day, but not all cities participate at that time. Nashville’s fundraiser, for example, takes place this year on May 8, St. Louis’s on June 13 and Milwaukee’s on September 12.

To see when your city participates, visit DiningOutForLife.com. There, you’ll also find a list of participating restaurants (and what proportion of their proceeds they’re donating) as well as which HIV organizations will benefit. You can also search hashtags such as #DiningOutForLife, #DineOutEndHIV, #DOFL and #DineOutGiveBack.

Over 2,400 restaurants are participating, according to the DOFL press release. The effort will be supported by 4,100 volunteers and 300,000 diners.
