They have spent in research much more money than any other disease, but cancer ( maybe), so far they can cure definetely 60/70 % of the people wiht the cancer, and they CAN NOT CURE anybody with hiv. WHY ? Good question or stupid question ? As far i concern the problem is the hiv cell with hiv integrated, what is the difference between hiv integrated cells and carcinogenesis cells ? All the drugs are targeting the virus itself and no drugs hit the hiv cells. They are still talking about a functional cure, but to be honest that is not a really cure because you have to take drugs for years and hope that hiv integrated cell expire in some years. Bilions and bilions spent to cure nobody. I believe they are wasting 90% of the funds they receive for the research and i suspect that the big pharma don't like to find a cure any time soon. The cure will come from a small company.

As a long time survivor, I've given this issue a lot of thought, too. Unfortunately, I've come to the sad conclusion that there's too much money to be made to keep us alive. Back room deals? Yep. Smoke filled rooms? Quite possibly. (only because smoking has been banned in most states...) Stocks are what matters most for big business and our economy. However, as I am an "optimist" by nature, I do believe that there are truly good people (scientists and such) that are committed to finding a "cure". Whether they will be "silenced" by greed or "subjected" by fear is yet to be determined.

I do believe that profit is the Pharma companies motive. Take for instance T-20 was developed by a small pharma company called Trimeris and it's discovery was taken over by one of the "big players" Roche. And I noticed TNX-355 (a co-receptor independent inhibitor) being studied by Tanox has been taken over by Genetech which has subcontracted the work out to a Taiwan company TaiMed. All this juggling is can not benefit HIV development.
